This is an interactive skills-based workshop that is designed for participants who want to consider practical applications for their work. CCMI uses learner-centred, performance-based approaches to adult education. The BAP online course includes:

  • Learning activities that evoke understanding and build skills.
  • Practice activities that increases practical understanding and allow trainers to provide constructive feedback.
  • Facilitated discussions about how new skills and knowledge can be applied in learners work or volunteer setting.

Practice and feedback sessions are intended to increase trainee’s confidence and achieve proficiency in BAP skills. The course includes 2 x 30-minute 1-on-1 webinar sessions with a BAP trainer. The trainer role plays the part of a patient or client to give the learner an opportunity to practice their skills. Past experience has shown that most BAP trainees become skilled with 2-3 practice sessions. These sessions are the ideal preparation for BAP Certification. Additional group practice and feedback sessions are available.

BAP certification demonstrates a trainee’s competence in BAP skills through an exam in the format of a structured and recorded interaction with a CCMI Standardized Patient. The exam is scored by a coder using a standardized rating scale. The rating scale emphasizes conversational tone, flow of the interaction and adherence to the Spirit of Motivational Interviewing in addition to demonstration of BAP skills.
