Overview: Motivational Interviewing Foundations Learning Pathway

Hello! This page contains an overview of CCMI’s Motivational Interviewing (MI) Foundations Learning Pathway. If you are considering learning MI online with CCMI, this page can help you to decide whether it’s something that you want to do and have the time to complete.

The Motivational Interviewing Foundations Learning Pathway is a series of 3 courses:

  1. MI Foundations: Introduction
  2. MI Foundations: Skills
  3. MI Foundations: Strategies and Application

The courses in the learning pathway are organized sequentially, so when you complete the first course, the second course will be unlocked and appear on your main dashboard.

Each course will be considered complete when all of the learning materials have been viewed, quizzes are complete, and assignments–including practice and feedback sessions–have been reviewed by an instructor.

The entire learning pathway takes approximately 16-18 hours to complete. In order to get the most out of the course, we suggest spreading it out over a period of up to three monthsFor a detailed overview of the contents and suggested schedule, view this page.

Contents:

Each of the courses in the learning pathway contains:

  • Reading material, videos, and audio clips to learn about motivational interviewing
  • Activities to practice and apply what you are learning
  • Short quizzes for you to check your progress
  • And practice and feedback video-conference sessions

Practice and feedback sessions are 30 minute one-on-one practice sessions with an instructor, based on your learning goals. There are three sessions, and each is accompanied by a written assignment. You will be prompted to schedule sessions as you proceed through the course. For more information on these sessions, click here

What other learners have said:

“What a great course!  I have been exposed to MI in the past, but feel that this has encouraged me to take small steps at incorporating the processes so that it becomes more familiar and easier to use”

“I definitely took away a lot from this course. I learned many practical strategies and tools that can help me address the various ways ambivalence shows up in my clients. I appreciated the information broken down into easily understandable categories with handouts available for future reference.”
