I am very thankful for the opportunity that we were given through CCMI to access the Brief Action Planning (BAP) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) programs. I had the privilege to work with CCMI in my previous role as the Professional Practical Nursing Consultant with First Nations Health Authority and knew the impact that the BAP self-management program could have on nursing practice. I saw how it supported nurses to provide quality person and a family-centred partnerships with families and clients in both the acute care and community setting. Therefore, I was very excited to have the opportunity for faculty and students in the Practical Nursing and BSN nursing program to have the experience of completing the online BAP modules and virtual recorded practice sessions during their community health semester. Students shared that they were very impressed with the learning in the modules and that they felt they were given amazing tools to support their partnership with their clients to encourage self-management, safe and client-centered care. Faculty members that participated in the BAP program felt it was valuable learning that would be beneficial to all health care professionals. Two other faculty members and myself are also completing the CCMI Motivational Interviewing Train the Trainer program. We are excited and committed to providing ongoing support and education sessions for the faculty at UFV. We will invite them to learn about and use these tools to support students in the healthcare provider programs in the UFV School of Health Studies in both the classroom and clinical settings. It is very exciting to have access to this learning and be able to share these resources openly within the UFV as we support our future nurses. I am looking forward to continuing in the partnership with CCMI and anticipate amazing growth due to these programs in student and faculty communication and engagement with families and individual clients in the healthcare and community settings.
Thank you CCMI!
